New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s New York City Section 8 Voucher waitlist lottery application opened on May 17 at 9 a.m. and will remain open until May 28 at 11:59 p.m. Applications (English & translated) are available online at: hcr.ny.gov/section8.

Through this open lottery, 15,000 applicants will be randomly selected to be added to HCR’s New York City waitlist. The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program provides rent subsidies for eligible low-income households including those that are homeless or have senior or disabled members. As demand for vouchers exceeds supply, HCR maintains an active waitlist for households interested in the program.

We recommend that residents that have rent arrears apply for the ERAP assistance. The Section 8 program is available to households where the rent creates a financial burden. Hope Community staff is available to assist residents with completing the application for these programs and any other rent assistance program offered by New York State or New York City.
