poetas-con-cafePOETAS CON CAFÉ
Poetas Con Cafe is a forum for poets and musicians to share their work with the East Harlem community.  The readings are held once per month from June to September, usually in the Modesto Flores Community Garden on Lexington Avenue near 104th Street.
This year Poetas has included performances at Taller Boricua at the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center.

Poetas Con Café features poets / musicians whose work or experience is connected to the East Harlem area. Hope Community, Inc. awards a stipend to each featured artist for their live presentation; the grant is occasionally matched by Poets & Writers, Inc.

Poetas Con Café was founded and is hosted by Hope Community, Inc. board member Roger Cabán, who also serves as host each year.

This time-honored tradition fills up the neighborhood's streets with lively music, colorful dancing and parrandas. In addition to participating in the Three Kings Day Parade, Hope Community hosts a Three Kings Day Dinner to commemorate and celebrate the journey of the biblical kings.

The Annual Community Service Awards Dinner is a longstanding Hope tradition where we celebrate community service and honor local leaders.  The annual event is both a fundraiser and a time to reflect on our work and our partnerships with many other groups and agencies. It is also a forum where we recognize a number of outstanding individuals who have committed their vision and talents to building a better East Harlem; as well as one Hope Community, Inc. staff person and a member our Board of Directors.
